Choco Idli Cake or Chocolate Idli Cake is a very easy and quick to prepare sweet dish. It is an idli shaped recipe that we prepare from All-purpose flour and Rava.
I frequently purchase my kitchen grocery from mall store so that all the items are easily available at one place. Once I was going through the grocery items and in the midway I saw a packet of Pillsbury Choco Idli mix. I started reading the process of how to prepare the recipe and then found the steps to be very easy and simple. Then I bought a packet of the choco idli mix to prepare it. The only pre-requisite to prepare this recipe is the requirement of Idli maker pot that we use for steaming the idli cake.
I tried this recipe for the first time with Pillsbury Choco Idli mix and it came out very well. Then I thought to prepare the Choco Idli Cake by preparing the batter of my own with All-purpose flour, Rava and Curd. I gave it a go and you will not believe how tasty and delicious it came out. Then I thought to share this recipe on my food blog. I would request you to give it a try. Try at your home and then share your feedback in the comment section. I am sure you will relish it. You can serve it to your kids if they are fond of sweets and chocolates.
To make Choco Idli Cake, first prepare the batter by mixing Maida, Rava, Curd, Cocoa Powder and Sugar with Milk or Water. The batter should be of right consistency. If the batter becomes thinner, add extra maida and rava. If it becomes thicker, add extra milk to it. Leave the batter for 10-15 minutes so that the semolina absorbs the liquid and gets fluffed up. Heat water in an Idli maker pot. Add Baking Soda or Eno Fruit Salt to the batter and mix it. Immediately transfer the batter into the moulds and then steam for 12-15 minutes. Insert a toothpick and see that it comes out clean. If it doesn’t then steam the idlis for few more minutes. Serve it with Chocolate Syrup.

Choco Idli Cake/Chocolate Idli Cake
Ingredients:
- 1/4 cup Semolina/Rava/Sooji
- 1/4 cup Maida (All-purpose Flour)
- 1/2 cup Curd (Yoghurt)
- 2 tablespoon Cocoa Powder
- 4 tablespoon Sugar
- 2 tablespoon Oil
- 1/4 cup Water or Milk
- 1/4 teaspoon Fruit Salt/Eno/Baking Soda
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla Essence: 1 teaspoon
- 2 tablespoon Chocolate Syrup/Sauce (Also for serving)
Instructions:
- Take a large bowl. Add Rava, Maida, Cocoa Powder and Sugar. Mix it uniformly.
- Now add Curd, Oil and Vanilla Essence. Mix it properly so that there are no lumps.
- Add Water and Chocolate Syrup. You can use Milk in place of water. Mix and churn it to prepare a smooth lumps free batter. Keep it aside for 15 minutes.
- Add Baking Soda or Eno Slat to the batter and mix it well. Froth will start forming.
- Take the idli plate and grease it with cooking oil or ghee.
- Now with the help of spoon transfer the batter into the moulds.
- Put the moulds into the steamer and steam it for 12-15 minutes.
- After 15 minutes, insert a toothpick to see whether it has been cooked or not. If it comes out clean, it means it is well cooked or else steam it for few minutes more.
- Switch off the flame and allow it to cool. Use a spoon or knife to take out the idli cake from the moulds.
- Delicious and yummy Choco Idli Cake is ready to serve. Serve it by spreading Chocolate Syrup over the Idli Cake.
Notes:
- Here we have used Sooji and Maida both. Both the ingredients are mixed together. If you want you can skip Maida (All-purpose Flour). Choco Cake can also be prepared with Sooji only.
- To prepare the batter, you can use either water or milk. Here I have used milk.
- After adding the Baking Soda or Eno Salt and mixing it, immediately transfer it to the idli plate.
- While transferring the batter to the moulds we must be careful not to fully fill the moulds with the batter. There should be slight space left so that it gets space to fluff.
