Condensed Milk is a Sweet Thickened Milk made from Full Cream Milk and Sugar. It is used to prepare a variety of traditional Indian Sweets. We prepare it by cooking Milk and Sugar together till we get a thick consistency of milk.

There are number of Sweets that we prepare using Condensed Milk. It can be homemade or readymade. There are many companies which are selling readymade one by adulteration with some other ingredients, so I suggest you all to prepare it at home only. Preparation of Condensed Milk at home takes time as it involves continuous boiling of milk at low temperature. If you do not have much time you can choose to use the readymade one but remember to use branded products.

We prepare Condensed Milk by reducing the milk to 1/3rd its original quantity by continuous heating. You can also cook the milk further to prepare Khoya (Mawa). Khoya or Mawa is a solid form of milk which we can use for making different types of Recipes such as Mawa Barfi, Gujia, Gulab Jamun, Gaajar Ka Halwa, etc.

To prepare Condensed Milk at home, take Full Cream Milk and Sugar in a heavy base kadai. Boil the milk at medium heat by continuous stirring with the help of spatula. While boiling you will observe that the milk starts thickening. Cook the milk till it reduces to about 1/3rd its original quantity. If you want to make it thicker, cook the milk further for few minutes. Adjust the amount of sugar as required. Switch off the gas and allow it to cool down to room temperature. Homemade Condensed Milk is ready to prepare different types of sweets.

Condensed Milk/How to make Condensed Milk at Home

Condensed Milk is a sweet thickened milk prepared from Full Cream Milk and Sugar. It is prepared by continuously boiling the Milk along with Sugar till a thick consistency of milk is formed. It is used to prepare different types of sweets.

Equipments:

  • Heavy base kadai
  • Spatula

Ingredients:

  • 1 litre Full Cream Milk (4 cup)
  • 1 cup Sugar (200 gram)

Instructions:

  • Take a heavy base Kadai and add Full Cream Milk into it. Also add Sugar to it.
  • Heat the Milk over medium flame till it comes to boil. Stir the Milk continuously with spatula to dissolve the Sugar.
  • Let the Milk boil till it reduces to half its original quantity.
  • Keep stirring the Milk continuously so that it does not stick and burn. If the milk sticks at the edges, remove it with the help of spatula or spoon and mix it back to the milk. The colour of the milk may change if the milk sticks and burn.
  • As the Milk is boiling you will see that the quantity of milk starts reducing and the consistency starts thickening.
  • Cook the Milk till the quantity reduces to 1/3rd of its original quantity. At this point the Condensed Milk is perfect to be used in preparing different sweets.
  • Switch off the stove and allow the Condensed Milk to cool down to room temperature.

  • Condensed Milk is ready to use. Store it in air tight container for weeks to prepare different types of sweets.

Notes:

  1. Keep stirring the Milk continuously with spatula while preparing Condensed Milk so that it does not stick at the bottom and edges. It can change the colour of the milk if it sticks and burn.
  2. Cook the Milk till it reduces to 1/3rd its original quantity to prepare right consistency of Condensed Milk.
  3. Adjust the quantity of Sugar as per your liking of sweetness.
