Cheese Garlic Bread or Garlic Cheese Bread is a cheesy Garlic flavoured bread recipe prepared from Plain Flour, Cheese and Butter. It is also seasoned with Oregano, Chilli Flakes and Mixed Herbs. It is served as a starter or appetizer before a full course meal.

Whenever I visit Dominos or Pizza Hut, my first choice as a starter is Cheese Garlic Bread. I never miss it before I jump over to pizza. I love having it since it is soft, tender and cheesy. It melts very easily inside the mouth. Inspite of having this food for many years, I never thought to prepare it at home. It looked very tedious job to prepare it. But later on I changed up my mind and decided to give it a try.

The idea of preparing Cheese Garlic Bread at home came to my mind when I was in my village. There we did not have any pizza restaurant. I stayed in my village for about 2 months and it was very difficult for me to stay away from it for so long. It was then that I decided to give a try for Pizza and Garlic Bread. I tried both the recipes in a single day. Both came out perfect. My mom and dad were also very surprised. My mom remembered the Pizza and Cheese Garlic Bread that she had in dominos and pizza hut. Below are few tips and tricks that you must follow to prepare this tasty recipe:

  1. Use Luke warm Water or Milk to activate the Yeast. Do not use hot water or else the Yeast will die. If you use cold water, the Yeast will not activate.
  2. Do not forget to add Sugar with the yeast. It acts as a catalyst which helps in starting the fermentation of yeast. Due to fermentation, froths or bubbles start coming out. It indicates that the yeast is activated.
  3. While preparing the dough you must take care that the dough is little sticky. It helps in making the Garlic Bread soft. If in any case it turns hard, add little amount of water to it.
  4. After the dough is prepared, allow it to rest for about 2 hours in warm place. It will help in fermentation.
  5. To make the Cheese Garlic Bread more cheesy, add adequate amount of Cheese while stuffing. Since we are preparing Cheese Garlic Bread, we need to add more of it. You can use Mozzarella Cheese alone or a mix of Mozzarella Cheese and Cheddar Cheese. Also, use of Oregano, Chilli Flakes and Mixed Herbs adds extra flavour to the Garlic Bread.
  6. Preheat the baking setup or microwave oven for some time before baking the Cheese Garlic Bread.

We can prepare Garlic Bread in two ways. One is with the use of cheese and the other is without the use of cheese. When we use generous amount of cheese as a stuffing to prepare Garlic Bread we call it as Cheese Garlic Bread or Garlic Cheese Bread. When we skip the use of cheese then we refer it as Garlic Breadsticks. Both the types of Garlic Bread is tasty, delicious and mouth watering. Also another type of Garlic Bread is Stuffed Garlic Bread where we use different types of veggies such as Capsicum, Sweet Corns, Jalapeno, French Beans, etc. Do try this recipe also and share your feedback.

To prepare Cheese Garlic Bread first we will activate the Yeast. Take Warm Water or Milk in a cup. Add Sugar and stir to dissolve it completely. Then add Yeast and stir it. Cover the cup and allow it to rest for 10-15 minutes. The yeast will leave froths. Formation of bubbles or froths indicates that the yeast has been activated. If there are no formation of froths then do not use it. Try different brand of yeast.

Now take All Purpose Flour in a large bowl. Add Oregano, Chilli Flakes, Mixed Herbs, Garlic Powder and Salt. Mix it uniformly. Add the Yeast and then knead the maida to prepare the dough. Knead the maida for around 10-12 minutes. Slowly and slowly while kneading it will start coming together. When the dough almost comes together add Oil and apply it all over the dough. Cover the dough and allow it to rest for almost 2 hours in a warm place. Dough should be little sticky so that Garlic Bread remain soft on baking. If the dough is little hard then you can add slight amount of water to it while kneading.

Now take Butter in a small bowl. Add Garlic Paste and Chopped Coriander Leaves. Mix it uniformly. Now remove the cover from the dough. It becomes almost double the initial size. Knead the dough again for few minutes and then roll it into ball shape. Now sprinkle some maida on flat surface or rolling board. Place the dough over it and roll it into thick circle shape roti with the help of rolling pin.

Take the mixed Garlic Butter and apply it all over the dough. The amount should be adequate since it will add taste to the Garlic Bread. Sprinkle some amount of Oregano, Chilli Flakes and Mixed Herbs over the bread. Next add adequate amount of Mozzarella Cheese over half portion of the bread. Again sprinkle some Oregano, Chilli Flakes and Mixed Herbs over the cheese. Now fold the dough and seal the edges.

Take pizza tray and place butter paper over it. Place the stuffed Cheese Garlic Bread over the butter paper. Apply Garlic Butter over the bread again. Sprinkle again some Oregano, Chilli Flakes and Herbs. Next with the help of knife make cut marks over the bread vertically. Now we will place the Cheese Garlic Bread in microwave oven or homemade baking setup to bake the bread. Here we are going to bake in homemade baking setup.

To make the baking setup, heat heavy base kadai on medium heat. Add Regular Salt and place the stand over it. Cover the kadai and preheat it for almost 15 minutes. Once the kadai heats up, open the lid and place the pizza tray with Garlic Bread over the stand. Cover the lid and bake it for almost 15 minutes. After 15 minutes switch off the flame and take it out from the kadai. Cheese Garlic Bread is ready to serve. Apply some more butter over the bread. Cut the bread along the cut marks and serve it with Tomato Ketchup or Mayonnaise.

Equipments:

Ingredients:

For Garlic Cheese Bread Dough:

  • 1 cup Plain Flour (Maida/All Purpose Flour)
  • 1/4 cup Warm Milk/Warm Water
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Dry Yeast
  • 3/4 teaspoon Oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon Chilli Flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Oil
  • A pinch Salt
  • Water for kneading (If required)

For Stuffing:

  • 1/4 cup Butter
  • 1 tablespoon Garlic Paste
  • 2 tablespoon Coriander Leaves
  • 1/4 cup Grated Mozzarella/Pizza Cheese (Or any type of cheese)
  • 2 teaspoon Chilli Flakes
  • 1 teaspoon Oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Mixed Herbs
  • 3 tablespoon Plain Flour (Maida) (For Dusting)

Instructions:

Preparation of Maida Dough:

  • For preparing Garlic Cheese Bread first we need to activate the Yeast. Take Warm Water in a small cup. Water should not be hot or else the yeast may not get activated and might die.
  • To warm water, add 1 teaspoon Sugar. Stir to dissolve the Sugar. You can replace water with milk to dissolve the yeast.
  • Next add the Yeast and stir it. Cover the cup and allow it to rest for about 10-15 minutes.
  • After 10-15 minutes, the yeast bubbles up and gets activated. Froths will be formed which will indicate that the yeast has been activated. Keep it aside. If froths are not formed then do not use it. Try with different brand of yeast.
  • Now take All Purpose Flour (Maida) in a large bowl.
  • To that add Oregano, Chilli Flakes, Mixed Herbs, Garlic Powder and Salt. Mix all the ingredients. These herbs make the Cheese Bread tastier.
  • Next add the activated yeast to the Maida mixture. With the help of your hand mix it to prepare the dough. Knead it for about 12-15 minutes.
  • While preparing the dough you should remember that it should be sticky. It helps in making the bread soft. If required add slight amount of water to the dough.
  • After kneading the dough for about 12-15 minutes, you will see that the dough starts coming together. However it will remain sticky. To that add 1/2 teaspoon Oil and apply over the dough so that it does not stick to the bowl.
  • Now cover the dough for about 1½ to 2 hour by keeping at warm place. At this moment the dough will expand to almost double in size.

Stuffing of Garlic Cheese Bread:

  • Now let’s first prepare the Garlic Butter. Take the Butter in a bowl.
  • To that add Garlic Paste and Chopped Coriander Leaves. Mix all the ingredients. Keep it aside.
  • Now remove the cover from the dough. You will see that the dough has doubled in its size.
  • With the help of your fist, knead the dough again to remove the excess air filled in the dough. Roll the dough into a ball shape.
  • Sprinkle small amount of Maida on a flat surface or in the rolling board. Place the dough over it.
  • With the help of rolling pin and hand, roll the dough to flatten it to form a circle.
  • Next take the Garlic Butter and spread it evenly over the bread properly with the help of a brush. The quantity should be appropriate as it adds flavour to Garlic Bread.
  • Sprinkle some amount of Oregano, Chilli Flakes and Mixed Herbs one by one over the bread.
  • Next take Grated Mozzarella Cheese or Pizza Cheese and spread generous amount of it over half the bread leaving the outer area slightly.
  • Again sprinkle Oregano, Chilli Flakes and Mixed Herbs over the cheese.
  • Fold the bread from one side and close the edges by pressing it slightly with your fingers.
  • Now take the pizza tray and place a butter paper over it. Butter Paper helps in preventing the butter to burn out.
  • With the help of your hand place the stuffed Garlic Bread gently over the pizza tray. Then apply Garlic Butter over the stuffed bread.
  • Sprinkle again some Oregano, Chilli Flakes and Mixed Herbs over the applied butter.
  • With the help of knife, make cut marks over the bread vertically. Do not cut it completely. Now we will bake it to make the Garlic Cheese Bread.

Preparation of Garlic Cheese Bread:

  • Take the heavy base kadai and add Regular Salt to it. Place the stand over the salt.
  • Cover and preheat the kadai over medium heat for about 15 minutes. This is a setup for baking the Garlic Bread. You can bake it in microwave oven also.
  • Once the kadai heats up, open the lid and place the tray with Garlic Bread over the stand.
  • Cover the kadai and under medium heat bake the Garlic Bread for about 15 minutes. If you are baking the Garlic Bread in microwave oven, then bake it at 180 degree Celsius for 15 minutes.
  • After 15 minutes open the lid and take out the tray. Apply some more butter over it. It helps in keeping the bread soft.
  • Soft and Cheesy Garlic Cheese Bread is ready to serve. Cut the bread at the marked area and serve it in slices. Serve it hot with Tomato Ketchup or Mayonnaise.

Notes:

  1. If you do not have Garlic Powder, you can replace it with Finely Chopped Garlic Cloves or Garlic paste.
  2. To activate the yeast, you can use either of warm milk or warm water. Sugar is added to water which acts as a catalyst. It helps in starting the fermentation of yeast
  3. Froths should be formed when the yeast is mixed in water and kept idle for few minutes. If froths are not formed then do not use the yeast.
  4. The dough should be allowed to rest for about 2 hours so that it gets doubled in size. It will help in preparing soft bread.
  5. The Maida dough should be kneaded properly or else the Garlic Cheese Bread may turn hard.
  6. You can vary the quantity of seasoning as per your choice. Adding more seasoning will add more flavour to it. You can also use Peri Peri Masala to make it more tasty and flavourful.
  7. To make cheesy Garlic Bread use more Pizza Cheese while stuffing. Also use appropriate amount of seasoning.
  8. For stuffing we have used only cheese. You can also add veggies such as Capsicum, Sweet Corns, Jalapeno, French Beans, etc. to prepare Stuffed Garlic Bread. You can select veggies as per your choice.
  9. If you are using microwave oven to bake the bread, then bake for 15 minutes at 180 degree Celsius.
  10. While baking remember not to over bake or else the Garlic Bread will become crispy. It will lose the softness of the bread.
