Methi Fried Rice or Fenugreek Fried Rice is a quick and healthy Rice recipe prepared from Rice, Methi Leaves, Vegetables and Spices. There are a number of Rice Recipes and Methi Fried Rice is one of the healthiest of them. It is little spicy in nature and is similar to other fried rice recipes. Methi is the most important ingredient of this recipe which is very healthy and nutritious for our body. It is a must have vegetable in our meal.
Fenugreek Fried Rice can be prepared either in pressure cooker or in open pot. Here we will be preparing the fried rice in pressure cooker. It helps in making the fried rice in quick time. If you wish to prepare this Fried Rice in open pot then pre boil the rice. It will help in making the rice fluffy. Chopped veggies are also one of the important ingredients of Fenugreek Fried Rice. Here I will be using only Peas, but you can also use other veggies such as Carrot, Capsicum, Cauliflower, French Beans, Potatoes, etc. The type of vegetables that you want to use depends upon your choice.
We can use Fenugreek Leaves to prepare either Methi Pulao or Methi Fried Rice. In Methi Pulao we use whole dry spices such as Cumin Seeds, Cardamom, Cloves, Bay Leaves, Mace, Star Anise, etc. along with veggies. While in Fenugreek Fried Rice we use spices such as Turmeric Powder, Red Chilli Powder, Garam Masala Powder, Coriander Powder, etc. You can visit Methi Pulao to prepare this recipe with whole spices. Today we will be preparing Methi Fried Rice with various spices.
Methi Fried Rice is spicy in nature and so there is no requirement of vegetables along with it. You can have it with Chutney, Pickles and Raita. It goes very well with Raita. In Methi Pulao we require vegetables or Dal to have it since it is less spicy.

Methi Fried Rice/Fenugreek Fried Rice/Methi Rice
Ingredients:
- 1 cup Rice
- 2 cups Chopped Methi Leaves
- 1/4 cup Green Peas
- 1 large Chopped Onion
- 1 medium Chopped Tomatoes
- 1/2 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
- 1 tablespoon Ginger Garlic Paste
- 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Red Chilli Powder
- 1 teaspoon Coriander Powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Garam Masala
- 3 tablespoon Oil
- Salt as required
- Water
Instructions:
- Take the Rice in a bowl and wash it by rinsing it with water for 2-3 times.
- Soak the Rice in water for at least 10 minutes.
- In the meantime remove the Peas from its outer layer and keep in a separate bowl. Also chop the Methi Leaves and keep in a bowl.
- After 10 minutes drain the Rice and keep it aside.
- Now heat 3 tablespoon Cooking Oil in pressure cooker over medium heat.
- Add Cumin Seeds and allow it to splutter.
- When the spluttering stops, add Chopped Onion and fry it till it changes its colour to golden.
- Next add the Ginger Garlic Paste. Saute till the raw smell goes off.
- Add the Chopped Tomatoes and Salt. Cook the Tomatoes by covering with lid till it becomes soft and mushy.
- Now add the fresh Green Peas and Finely Chopped Methi Leaves. Cook for 2 minutes.
- Add the spices such as Turmeric Powder, Red Chilli Powder, Coriander Powder and Garam Masala.
- Add small amount of Water and mix all the spices with Peas and Methi Leaves. Saute till the spices are well cooked.
- Next add the soaked Rice into the cooked spices. Mix the Rice properly with spices and cook for a minute.
- At last add the required amount of Water into the cooker. Mix it and cover the cooker with the lid.
- Over medium heat cook the Rice for 2 whistles. After 2 whistles, switch off the stove and allow the pressure to come down by itself.
- When the pressure is completely released, take out the rice in a plate. Serve with Chutney or Pickle along with Raita.
Notes:
- While preparing the Rice in pressure cooker, the number of whistles depends upon the type and quality of rice. Most of the type of Rice normally gets cooked in 2 whistles.
- You can also add vegetables such as Carrot, Capsicum, Cauliflower, etc. to prepare Methi Fried Rice.
- Here we have prepared Methi Fried Rice in pressure cooker. You can also make it in open pot, but it will take more time.
- To make Methi Pulao skip the powdered spices and use whole spices. It will be less spicy and can be had with curry recipes.
