Soya Chilli Gravy or Chilli Soyabean Gravy is a protein rich Indo Chinese recipe prepared by cooking fried Soya chunks with gravy of different sauces. There are two variant of Chilli Soya. One is the dry variant and other is the gravy variant. I have already shared the dry variant in my earlier posts. Today I am going to share the gravy variant. Please visit Chilli Soya Nuggets for the dry version. To prepare the gravy variant, we need to use more amount of Corn Flour and Water. Also to make the gravy look more attractive, we need to bring reddish colour to the gravy. Many people use food colour to change the colour of the gravy. But here we will be using Kashmiri Red Chilli Powder to bring red colour to the recipe.

To prepare crunchy Soya Chilli Gravy, fry the soya chunks for a little longer time. It remains crunchy for about an hour. When we add the soyabean chunks to the gravy, it becomes soft within few minutes. So to serve it crunchy, add the fried soya chunks to the gravy and serve it immediately by garnishing with Spring Onion Greens.

In order to prepare Soya Chilli Gravy, first we need to marinate the Soya Chunks. To marinate, add Gram Flour and the Spices to soyabean. Mix it and keep it aside for 15-20 minutes. Fry the marinated soyabean till it changes its colour to light brown. Take it out from the oil and keep it in kitchen towel to absorb the excess oil. Now to prepare the gravy, first fry the vegetables such as Onion and Capsicum. Then add the sauce and slurry of Corn Flour. Mix it and cook for few minutes. At last add the fried Soya Chunks and mix it. Soya Chilli Gravy is ready. Take it out in a serving bowl and garnish with Spring Onion Greens. Serve Chilli Soyabean Curry with any Rice Recipes or Noodles or Roti or Naan.

Soya Chilli Gravy/Chilli Soyabean Gravy

Ingredients:

For Fried Soya Nuggets:

  • 1 cup Soyabean Chunks
  • 1/4 cup Gram Flour (Besan)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ginger Garlic Paste
  • 1/4 teaspoon Black Pepper Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Kashmiri Red Chilli Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 4 cups Water
  • Oil for Frying

For Chilli Soya Gravy:

  • 1 medium Onion (cubed)
  • 1 medium Capsicum (cubed)
  • 2 tablespoon Finely Chopped Garlic
  • 2 piece Green Chilli Slit
  • 3 tablespoon Tomato Sauce
  • 2 tablespoon Chilli Sauce
  • 2 teaspoon Soya Sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon Kashmiri Red Chilli Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Vinegar
  • 3 teaspoon Corn Flour
  • 2 tablespoon Oil
  • 4 tablespoon Spring Onion Greens
  • 1 cup Water
  • Salt to taste

Instructions:

Frying Soyabean Nuggets:

  • Switch on the stove and boil Water in sauce pan. Add Salt to it.
  • Switch off the stove and add the Soya Chunks. Soak the Soya Chunks for 20 minutes or till they become soft.
  • When the Soyabean Chunks becomes soft, add cold water to it. Squeeze out the excess water from the soya chunks and keep in a separate bowl.
  • Add Gram Flour, Ginger Garlic Paste, Red Chilli Powder, Black Pepper Powder and Salt. Add Salt as required.
  • Mix all the ingredients properly so that each and every soya chunks are well coated with Gram Flour and other spices. Leave it for 5-10 minutes
  • Now heat Oil in a pan or kadai over medium flame.
  • Add the coated soyabean chunks into the Oil and fry them till they are slight golden in colour.
  • Fry the marinated soya chunks under medium heat. Keep stirring so that it does not burn.
  • Take out the fried soya chunks from the oil and place them over kitchen towel so that the excess oil is absorbed.
  • In the similar manner fry all the marinated soyabean. Keep it aside.

Preparing Soya Chilli Gravy Recipe:

  • Take 3 teaspoon of Corn Flour with a cup of Water. Mix to prepare slurry. Keep it aside
  • Heat Oil in a pan over medium heat.
  • Add Finely Chopped Garlic and Green Chilli. Saute for few seconds till the raw smell goes off.
  • Next add cubed Chopped Onions and Capsicum. Saute till the Onions and Capsicum slightly change its colour.
  • Add Tomato Sauce, Chilli Sauce, Soya Sauce, Kashmiri Red Chilli Powder, Vinegar and Salt.
  • Mix all the ingredients and saute for 2 minutes.
  • Now add the prepared slurry with other ingredients and cook till the gravy slightly thickens.
  • At last add the fried Soya Chunks to the sauce slurry. Mix well to coat the soya chunks with the sauces.
  • Cook for 2 minutes and then switch off the stove. Do not allow the gravy to dry up. If it gets dried up, add small amount of water into it.
  • Chilli Soya Gravy is ready. Serve it with your favourite Rice Recipes or Roti or Naan or Noodles by garnishing with Spring Onion Greens.

Notes:

  1. Add Kashmiri Red Chilli Powder to give a reddish colour to the recipe. If you want you can skip it.
  2. The Soya Chunks can either be deep fried or shallow fried.
  3. To increase the quantity of gravy, you can use more amount of slurry of Corn Flour and Water.
  4. Here we have used Gram Flour to marinate the Soyabean. You can also use Corn Flour. However Besan is healthier than Corn Flour.
  5. To prepare Chilli Soya Nuggets (Dry variant), add less amount of Corn Flour paste.
  6. To enhance the flavour of Soya Chilli, keep the Onion and Capsicum little raw while frying.
