There are different types and different ways of making Raita. The different ways gives a different taste. The most common type of Raita is the Boondi Raita. I have already shared the recipe of Masala Boondi Raita. Raita is the most hygienic and healthy food item in our dining table. It’s the best company with our regular diet. Raita is mostly had in summer days. Hot days have arrived and Raita is also arriving in our daily diet. It is one food that goes well with our food as a side dish daily. All the Raita’s are prepared in the same way. Only the main ingredients change. Today we will be preparing Tomato Onion Raita.

Tomato Onion Raita is prepared with Curd, Chopped Tomatoes, Chopped Onion, Chopped Chilli, Roasted Cumin Seed Powder, Black Pepper, Chopped Coriander Leaves and Salt. Tomatoes and Onions should be chopped into very small pieces before adding them into the curd. Tomato Onion Raita is very easy and quick to prepare. Curd has various benefits. Curd is a great probiotic which contains bacteria that is very useful for our health. It helps in digestion, effective in boosting immunity, keeping healthy skin, good for bones, reduces high blood pressure, etc. Having Curd in the form of Raita is also very beneficial for our health.

Tomato Onion Raita

Tomato Onion Raita is easy to make. It is prepared using Curd that is beaten first and then ingredients such as Tomato, Onion, Black Pepper, Roasted Cumin Seed Powder and Salt is added to it. Onion and Tomato should be finely chopped before adding it to the curd. It is garnished with Coriander Leaves. Serve it with Pulao, Biryani, Parantha or any other recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 200 gm Curd (Yoghurt)
  • 1 medium Chopped Onion
  • 1 medium Chopped Tomato
  • 1 medium Chopped Chilli (Optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon Roasted Cumin Powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Chilli Powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Finely Chopped Coriander Leaves
  • Salt

Instructions:

  • First we will prepare Roasted Cumin Powder. Heat Pan or Tawa over medium flame. Put the cumin seeds and roast it for few seconds.
  • When it starts changing its colour to black, switch off the stove. Prepare a smooth powder of it and keep it aside.
  • Take the curd in a large bowl and beat the curd with a spoon or wire whisk to make a smooth mixture. Add water to improve the thickness of curd.
  • Add Chopped Onion, Chopped Tomatoes, Black Pepper, Chilli Powder, Roasted Cumin Powder, Chopped Coriander Leaves and Salt. Mix all the ingredients evenly for a minute.
  • Tomato Onion Raita is ready to be served. Serve it with Biryani, Parantha or any Rice recipe by garnishing with Chopped Coriander Leaves. Sprinkle some Red Chilli Powder over the Raita.

Notes:

  1. Onion should be chopped into very small square shaped pieces.
  2. Before chopping tomatoes, the inner part along with the seeds should be removed. It should be also chopped into very small pieces.
  3. Add water to Curd as per your fondness of thickness of Raita.
  4. Use Roasted Cumin Seeds powder to make Raita. Roasted powder makes Raita very tasty and yummy.
  5. The quantity of spices varies with the quantity and thickness of Raita. If more water is added, the amount of spices also increases. So add spices as per your need. Also spiciness can be decreased or increased as per one’s liking.
