Tomato Onion Garlic Chutney

Chutneys are very common in every Indian household. People love to have chutneys in their meal, whichever type it may be, whether it is coriander chutney or Mint chutney or garlic chutney. It is very simple and easy to prepare. Tomato chutney can be prepared in various ways. Here we have used Onion and Garlic along with tomatoes to prepare it which is spicy in nature. Sweet tomato chutney is prepared by adding sugar or Jaggery (Gudd). I have also shared the recipe for Sweet Tomato Chutney. Tomato Onion Garlic Chutney can be served with Bread Pakodas, Samosa, Fried Rice, Dosa, Idli, Chilla, Cutlet and Tikki. Ingredients:

  • 10 medium Chopped Ripe Tomato
  • 2 medium Chopped Onion
  • 2 piece Chopped Green Chillies
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon Mustard Seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Chopped Ginger
  • 6-7 pieces Garlic Cloves
  • 1 tablespoon Chopped Coriander Leaves
  • 1 tablespoon Chopped Spring Onion Greens
  • 2 tablespoon Oil to fry
  • Salt to Taste

Instructions:

  • Take the tomatoes, Onion and Coriander leaves and chop them separately. Keep it aside.
  • Heat 2 tablespoon oil in a Frying pan or Kadai. Add cumin and mustard seeds. Cook till the crackling sound comes from it.
  • Add the chopped chillies, garlic cloves, green spring onions and onion. Fry till the onion becomes translucent.
  • Now add the ginger paste and salt to it. Saute it for 2 minutes.
  • Next add the chopped tomatoes. Mix it well and cook it by covering the pan for 12-15 minutes or till the tomatoes becomes mushy.
  • When the tomatoes become mushy, mix it well by pressing it so that the mixture becomes a paste.
  • Add coriander leaves and cook for another 1 minute. Turn off the stove.
  • Take it out in a bowl and serve it with your favourite recipe.

Notes:

  1. Tomatoes used in this chutney should be totally ripe. It will give a very good taste. If the tomatoes are not ripe, the chutney will not come good.
  2. If required you can add water to it while cooking.
  3. If you want to prepare Sweet tomato chutney, just add sugar or Gudd (Jaggery) along with tomato ketchup.
  4. One can prepare a paste of tomato in mixer grinder and then cook it with onion and garlic. This process takes less time to cook.
  5. The quantity of the ingredients such as onion and garlic can be altered according to one’s taste.
