Ingredients

  • 250 gms Curd (Yoghurt)
  • 1 small Finely Chopped Onion
  • 1/4 teaspoon Roasted Cumin Powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Red Chilli Powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon Black Pepper Powder
  • 1 tablespoon Finely Chopped Coriander Leaves
  • Black Salt : As required (or White Salt)

Instructions

  • To prepare Onion Raita, we need to first prepare the Raita Masala by roasting all the ingredients. We have beforehand roasted the whole spices and prepared the smooth powder. Prepare it and use it directly to make any type of Raita.
  • Peel the Onion and finely chop into small pieces. Keep it aside.
  • Take the Curd in a large bowl and whisk it with a large spoon or wire whisk to make the curd smooth.
  • Add water to make the curd thinner. Quantity can vary as per your requirement.
  • Add Chopped Onion, Roasted Cumin Powder, Black Pepper Powder, Chilli Powder, Chopped Coriander Leaves and Black Salt to it. (Note: If you have the already prepared Homemade Raita Masala, just mix it and whisk it. There is no need of adding the spices separately). Here I have added Homemade Raita Masala along with Chopped Onion.
  • Mix it properly so that all the ingredients are spread evenly.
  • Onion Raita is ready to be served. Garnish it lightly with Chopped Coriander Leaves and sprinkle some Red Chilli Powder over it. Serve with any type of Biryani, Parantha or with any Rice recipe.

Notes

1. Onion should be chopped finely into very small square shaped pieces so that it mixes well with the curd.
2. Add water to the curd as per your requirement of the thickness of the Raita.
3. To get the real taste of Onion Raita, add roasted Cumin and Black Pepper Powder. It enhances the taste of the Raita.
4. Coriander Leaves can be replaced by Mint Leaves. Both the option gives a better taste.
5. Quantity of spices added to the Raita should be kept in mind. Less or more amount of spices can ruin the taste. So add the spices as per the need.
6. If you hate the raw smell of onion, you can simply fry it in oil and then mix it with curd to make delicious Pyaaz Ka Raita or so called Onion Raita.
