Ingredients

  • 1 cup Plain Flour (Maida/All Purpose Flour)
  • 1/4 cup Warm Milk/Warm Water
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Dry Yeast
  • 2 teaspoon Oregano
  • 2 teaspoon Chilli Flakes
  • 1 teaspoon Mixed Herbs
  • 1/2 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Oil
  • A pinch Salt
  • Water for kneading (If required)
  • 1/4 cup Butter
  • 1 tablespoon Garlic Paste
  • 2 tablespoon Coriander Leaves
  • 3 tablespoon Plain Flour (Maida) (For Dusting)

Instructions

Preparation of Maida Dough:

  • First we will activate the Yeast. To activate the Yeast take Warm Water in a cup. Water should be warm and not hot or else the yeast might not get activated. You can also use Warm Milk in place of Water.
  • To the Water add a teaspoon of Sugar. Sugar is added to activate the yeast. Stir the Sugar to dissolve it.
  • Next add Yeast and stir to dissolve completely. Cover the cup and allow it to rest for 15 minutes.
  • In 15 minutes, the yeast gets activated and froths are formed. Formation of froths indicates that the yeast has been activated. Keep the activated yeast aside.
  • Now take All Purpose Flour in a large bowl.
  • Add Garlic Powder, Oregano, Chilli Flakes, Mixed Herbs and Salt. Mix all the ingredients uniformly.
  • Now add the activated yeast to the mixture. Mix and knead the All Purpose Flour to prepare the dough. If required you can add water while kneading.
  • Knead the mixture for about 10-15 minutes. The dough should be little sticky. It helps in preparing soft Garlic Bread.
  • While kneading you will observe that the dough starts coming together. At this moment take Oil and apply over the dough so that it does not stick to the bowl anymore.
  • Now cover the dough and place it in a warm place for about 1½ to 2 hours. During this duration of time the dough doubles in its size.

Preparation of Garlic Bread sticks:

  • First let’s prepare Garlic Butter. Take 1/4 cup Butter in a bowl. To it add 1 table spoon Garlic Paste and 2 tablespoon Chopped Coriander Leaves. Mix it to prepare Garlic Butter. Keep it aside. You can also replace Garlic Paste with Garlic Powder.
  • Now remove the cover from the dough. The dough becomes almost double in its size.
  • Knead the dough again with your fist to remove the excess air. Roll the dough into a ball shape.
  • Now take small amount of Maida and sprinkle it into the flat surface of your kitchen or over rolling board.
  • Place the dough over the flat surface and roll it with the help of rolling pin to flatten into a circle shape roti. The thickness should be about 4 to 5 mm. You can vary the thickness as per your choice.
  • Now take the Garlic Butter and with the help of brush spread it evenly over the bread. The quantity should be appropriate. While applying Garlic Butter remember to leave the edges of the dough untouched. We will need it to bind the edges.
  • Next sprinkle generous amount of Oregano, Chilli Flakes and Mixed Herbs over the bread.
  • Fold the bread from one end and close the edges by pressing it slightly with fingers.
  • Take the pizza tray and place butter paper over it. Butter Paper helps in preventing the butter and Garlic Bread to burn.
  • Gently with your hand place the Garlic Bread over the pizza tray. Next apply Garlic Butter over the bread.
  • Again sprinkle some Oregano, Chilli Flakes and Mixed Herbs over the bread.
  • Now take a knife and make cut marks over the bread vertically. Do not cut it completely. Allow the Garlic Breadsticks to rest for another 10-15 minutes. Now let’s bake to prepare the Garlic Breadsticks in a preheated baking setup.

Baking of Garlic Bread sticks:

  • To make the baking set up switch on the gas and place the heavy base kadai over it. Add Regular Salt to it and place the stand over the salt.
  • Cover the kadai and allow it to preheat for about 15 minutes over medium heat. This is the baking setup. You can bake the Garlic Breadsticks in microwave oven also.
  • Once the kadai heats, open the lid and place the tray with Garlic Bread over the stand.
  • Cover the kadai and bake the bread for about 15 minutes under medium flame. If you are baking in microwave oven, then bake it at 180 degree Celsius for 15 minutes.

  • After 15 minutes switch off the flame and open the lid. Take out the tray. Apply some butter over the bread. Sprinkle some Oregano and Chilli Flakes over the Garlic Bread.

  • Tasty and delicious Garlic Bread is ready to serve. Cut the bread along the cut marks and serve it. Serve it hot with Mayonnaise or Mustard Sauce or Tomato Ketchup.

Notes

  1. You can replace Garlic Powder with Finely Chopped Garlic Cloves or Garlic paste if you do not have Garlic Powder.
  2. The most important part in preparing Garlic Bread is the fermentation of dough. This is done by using Yeast. First Yeast is activated. To activate the Yeast, Sugar is mixed with Warm Water or Milk and then Yeast is added to it. It is left covered for 15 minutes to activate the Yeast.
  3. The activated yeast must form froths. Formation of froths indicates that the yeast is activated. If froths are not formed then it means that yeast has not been activated.
  4. The Maida dough should be kneaded properly to prepare soft Garlic Bread.
  5. After the dough is kneaded, allow it to rest for about 2 hours. In 2 hours the dough will be double in size. It helps in preparing soft Garlic Breadsticks.
  6. Seasoning is very important for Garlic Bread to taste good. Add generous amount of seasoning to add extra flavour. Vary the amount of seasoning as per your choice.
  7. You can also bake the Garlic Bread in microwave oven. Bake it for about 15 minutes at 180 degree Celsius.
  8. Garlic Bread should not be over baked or else it will become hard. It will loose its softness.
