Preparing Turmeric Powder from Dried Turmeric:

  • Take the dried turmeric and break them into small pieces with the help of mortar and pestle.
  • Keep these broken pieces of turmeric in sun for a day to dry.
  • After drying the turmeric, transfer them into mixer grinder jar. Use high power mixer grinder which can handle hard materials like dried haldi.
  • Grind to prepare fine and smooth powder. Since the material is hard, grind in intervals by switching off the grinder. This is done to avoid over heating of mixer grinder.
  • While blending, in between mix the powder with spoon and again grind it.
  • Now using a sieve, sieve the powdered turmeric to separate the leftover big turmeric materials.
  • Take the leftover again in the mixer grinder to grind it. Sieve it again. Repeat the process till fine and smooth powder is obtained.
  • Transfer the smooth powder into a plate and allow it to cool.
  • After it cools down completely, transfer it to air tight container and use the masala for many months.

Notes

  1. Dry the turmeric roots properly before grinding or else it may get spoiled very quickly after making the powder.
  2. To prepare the Turmeric Powder, use high power mixer grinder only which can handle such hard material. Also do not blend the turmeric at one stretch or else it will over heat the mixer grinder. Take break while blending.
  3. To prepare fine and smooth powder, sieve the blended powder. Grind the leftover again into smooth powder. Follow this process till fine powder is obtained.
  4. Store the Turmeric Powder in an air tight container after it gets completely cooled after grinding. It can be used for few months if stored in a packed container.
  5. Also for storing the masala powder for long time, store it in glass jar rather than plastic container. Do not use wet spoon for the masala.
